| “ | Some people would do anything for money. Destroying nature to build a tourist trap? Unbelievable. Selfish people like that are the reason the Earth is hurting. Oh, poor Mother Nature!
―Liz to Ashley about Matthew's father

Elizabeth "Liz" Alfred is a major character in Another Code: R - A Journey into Lost Memories and its remake Another Code: Recollection.
Background
She is the daughter of Rex Alfred, the current director of J.C. Valley, and a fashion industry employee named Kate. Her parents divorced four years ago and she has not physically seen or has been able to contact her mother since. This is because Rex hid Kate's letters written to her. She used to own an Old English Sheepdog named Princess, but the dog became a stray.
Her cousin is Janet Rice. She is in a band with Tommy Harrison and Sam Hillman, and she is on vocals and keyboard. She has a crush on Tommy and she has known him since she was a child.
Personality
Elizabeth offended by Ashley.
Initially, Elizabeth acts very rude and condescending towards Ashley Robbins and is a bit of a bully. She gets offended when Ashley tries to give advice, asking who Ashley thinks she is. For a lot of the game, Elizabeth talks to Ashley as if she is beneath her. Ashley becomes quite sick of walking on Elizabeth's eggshells.
Deep down, Elizabeth is actually rather lonely; she is afraid of being alone and her parents' divorce still upsets her. Throughout the game, she grows and becomes more mature, respectful and understanding of others by the end.
She has a disdain for scientists, saying they tend to be the worst kinds of people, and that all they care about are their systems, their research and their results.
She is fond of the popular brand Bella Regina, as seen on her bandana. She has a soft spot for taller guys.
Elizabeth seems to appreciate the environment, as she felt unhappy about Crusoe Resort because she believed the pollution rumor.
Another Code: R - A Journey into Lost Memories
Ashley first encounters Elizabeth while passing by her with Sam Hillman. Elizabeth acts rather hostile to Ashley in the early chapters of the game, and is upset about her lost music player.
Elizabeth watching Ashley and Richard argue.
Elizabeth is amused to find that Ashley is tagging along with a "dirty kid" and a "runt" (Matt) which offends Ashley, although Elizabeth points out Matt's clothes are covered in dirt. Elizabeth accuses Matt of stealing her music player. Richard Robbins mistakenly assumes Elizabeth and Ashley have become friends. Ashley and Richard have an argument because she feels Richard is completely siding with Elizabeth, causing Elizabeth to walk away due to the awkwardness.
While in Lake Juliet's town, Elizabeth discovers that Janet and Ashley are classmates. Ashley goes over to Elizabeth's house where she accidentally drops and breaks Elizabeth's music box. Annoyed, she kicks Janet and Ashley out of her room. Ashley meets Rex and learns about his strained relationship with Elizabeth. When Elizabeth finds out that Rex has been hiding her mother's letters from his own daughter for years, Elizabeth cries and Janet tells Ashley it's best to leave for now.
Elizabeth seeing Ashley off.
By the end of the game, she and Ashley reach a mutual understanding. She sees Ashley off, says she will try to change for the better and says they will meet again someday.
Another Code: Recollection
In the remake, Elizabeth for the most part has a similar role, although she may be interpreted as being less clingy towards Ryan. The remake also removes the scene where Ashley finds Elizabeth crying on her dining room table.
On the final day, there is a new scene of Ashley and Elizabeth catching up one-on-one. Elizabeth regrets being harsh on Matthew as she did not know the truth. Ashley suggests sending Matt a message, and that she should tell her, too. Elizabeth replies, "Oh, please, as if I'd ever do that." This shocks Ashley, although Elizabeth says the next time they meet will be at the band contest instead.
Quotes
Original game
- "I'd love if you could stay and chat and all, but I have better things to do. Like file my nails. Or watch paint dry. Or anything else, really."
- "Oh dear, how embarrassing. I can't just stand here while you two have a big father-daughter row. Awkward. I think this is my cue to depart."
- "We all have our moments, Ashley." (when Ashley finds her in tears)
Remake
- "Who are you, anyway? Why are you even here?"
- "Who do you think you are, telling me what I should do?"
- "Could you just leave already? You're so annoying." (to Ashley)
- "Seriously? How can you walk around like nothing's wrong?" (to Matt)
Trivia
- In the Wii version of the game, Elizabeth’s family is shown as owning a large flat-screen HDTV, which was a sign of wealth at the time of the game’s 2009 release and its in-game setting in 2007. At the time, large HDTVs would often cost several thousand dollars, unlike today where such devices are widely accessible and affordable. Additionally, Ashley remarks the presence of a home cinema system, a DVD player accompanied by a large DVD collection, and a satellite TV box (seen at the time as a premium upgrade over cable), in Elizabeth’s home, reinforcing the character’s upper-class status. In the remake, the living room and kitchen area are inaccessible for unknown reasons.
- Although it would have been easy to create a snobby evil one-dimensional rich bully character, it is notable how the games' writers went beyond this in order to humanize Elizabeth and give her character depth for a 2009 game, especially due to the amount of one-dimensional bullies often seen in youth fiction. It may also be considered unique that the bully character and the protagonist eventually reach common ground and are on friendly terms at the end.
- Despite coming from a wealthy background, Elizabeth has a lot of stresses in her life, explaining why she acts the way she does a lot.
- Her parents had a divorce, she dislikes her father, and she deeply misses her mother who has not contacted her once in the past four years since the divorce (due to Rex hiding her letters).
- Her childhood dog goes missing, and during the game, she loses her MP3 player and her music box gets accidentally broken by Ashley.
- She has an unrequited crush on Tommy, but he has apparently never reciprocated her feelings, as he views her in a "kid sister" way instead of a "girlfriend" way due to their age gap.
- Even her cousin Janet is not very close to her, calling Elizabeth "nothing but a selfish priss" at one point.
- She discovers her father has been hiding her mother's letters for the past four years.
- It can be discovered she was overweight as a child, raising the possibility she may have been bullied for it in the 90s/early 2000s. One may also interpret possible bullying as the reason why she cares a lot about her clothes and appearance.
- It could be thought she takes out some of her pent-up feelings out on Ashley as a way to relieve her stress. She is likely jealous of Ashley, specifically in the sense that Ashley comes to Lake Juliet and suddenly easily makes friends with everyone, and she gets annoyed when Ryan gives attention to Ashley, making her feel isolated. Later, finding the letters causes Elizabeth to have an emotional breakdown with Ashley as a witness, another probable source of embarrassment, humiliation and stress for her.
- Elizabeth has a photograph of a woman beside her bed. Although the identity is not revealed, it is possible it's her mother.
- Elizabeth can be thought of as Ashley's foil, being a girl who has a distant relationship with her scientist father.
